林醫生（等四年。。。）
我今年秋天將開始上醫學院。因為我夢想在加州上醫學院，將來我會碰到很多中國人。我在加州也要做我的住院醫師，所以我一定會用中文跟一些病人交談。大部分的移民比較喜歡用他們的母語告訴醫生他們的問題。我前年在洛杉磯的醫學院做一點中醫研究。我學醫的時候要看一看怎麼可以把西醫和中醫結合起來。這門課對我將來有幫助，因為我可以服務中國來的移民。這個學習機會讓我更了解中國人的病情跟需要。
This fall, I will begin my medical education at UCSF School of Medicine. Because it has been my dream to attend medical school in California, I know that many of my future patients will be Chinese speakers. Because I would also like to do my residency in California, I am aware that I will be using Chinese to interact with many of my future patients. The vast majority of immigrants prefer to use their native language when communicating with their doctors and presenting their medical problems. In the summer of 2013, I did research on Traditional Chinese Medicine at UCLA Geffen School of Medicine. In the future, when I study and practice medicine, I would like to examine where I could integrate Eastern and Western medical practices. Taking this class will benefit my future career because it allows me to better serve Chinese immigrants, and it gives me the opportunity to more successfully understand my Chinese patients’ conditions and needs.

Because this author has an incredibly pragmatic perspective in regards to medicine, my reasons for pursuing medicine are not too similar to his. He tells his audience that physicians cannot have certain fears, and he spends the bulk of the time discussing physicians’ income, social status, and prestige. I believe this is rather odd because he never explains why he actually chose to become a physician; he only mentions exclusion criteria that should prevent people from becoming physicians. Even though he mentions that physicians help people (like most, if not all, other professions), he does not explicitly explain his own reasons for pursuing medicine, and his essay does not strike me as particularly impressive or informative.
